Earthquakes

FaultA huge crack in the crust, at or below the surface, the sides of which may show evidence of motion .
                                            
Today i learn the meaning of fault .

Focus : the point where an earthquakes starrs, where rocks beginf to slide past each other .  
                                                     
Focus is very imporant to determine where it would be more danger .


Seismic wave: a vibration that spreads out away from a focus when an earthquakes happens . 
                                               
Seismic waves is a vibration during an earthquake .


Epicenter: The pont on Earth's surface directly above the focus .
                                                    
The epicenter is where the earthquake take place .

Aftershock : the shaking of the crust after the initial shaking of an earthquake .
                                      
The aftershock in Haiti was very big .

SeismographA sensitive device that detects the shaking of the crust .
Seismographer help to know when a earthquake can happen .


MagnitudeThe amount of energy released by an earthquake .
                                               
the magnitude of th earthquake was of 2.3 .
